Marilyn was the first covergirl of PLAYBOY

The very first issue...

When Hugh Hefner launched the first issue of Playboy magazine in 1953, he had little idea that he was creating an empire and that history was being made, infact the magazine had no date and there was no promise of a second issue. With Marilyn on the cover and her nude calendar shot as the 'Sweetheart of the Month,' the magazine quickly sold out. Today that premiere issue is worth between $1,000 and $3,500.

In a recent edition Marilyn was voted the #1 sexiest woman of the 20th Century out of a list of 100.

Going back to that first issue, here's a little of what they had to say about our Marilyn...

...there is nothing else quite like Marilyn on this good earth - be it animal, vegetable or mineral. She is natural sex personified. It is there in every look and movement. That's what makes her the most natural choice in the world for our very first Playboy Sweetheart.

Below is a selection of Marilyn Playboy's from the past 50 years, including some international editions.
